Tying up loose ends

Today I send out a unit to retrieve the horses from the Iroth mine and town. It is amusing to receive a magical message from my friends using a spell when we have the communication broaches at our disposal, but their request is simple enough. I will be sure they are well prepared. Their report will be revealing.

Kirth is starting to culminate into a smooth running bureaucracy. The turmoil will not fade soon, but the foundation is set for order. The struggle to return Kirth to order is not as difficult as I expected. I am fortunate to have time to learn from Haelimbrar. I hope to see the company of Light and darkness in Kirth soon.

I have all the time I need to write thoughtful journal entries, and yet I find less and less to write about. There is a balance involved here I never though of.

The Lesson of Pride

Haelimbrar wants me to take on an important task today. I need to find out how many worshipers of Bane are at the temple. He needs to know how many are clerics and how many are followers. He also wants to know if the temple damaged. I tried to sneak in, but the proved impossible. I tried to look and count the numbers entering and leaving, but that was not effective. I tried to persuade a guard to give me answers but he claimed he did not know.

I approached Haelimbrar and told him I was not successful. He said, “Why do you fail me? It was a simple task.” I explained all that I tried to do and how it wasn’t my fault.

Haelimbrar did not understand at all. He told me to go to the Ruins of the temple of Torm. He followed me. When we arrived he asked me if I remember when we first met here. “Yes” I replied. He asked, “Do you think I could rebuild this temple alone?” I answered “No, you needed help to move the largest beams and I sure you would need help on other things later.” Haelimbrar said” If you understand that, then why did you not ask for help today? “I explained that didn’t know anyone who could get in or trust anyone to ask around. Haelimbrar Said “Why didn’t you introduce yourself and state your business with the temple and ask for the answers?” I answered that I didn’t trust the Bane worshipers. Haelimbrar said, “That isn’t the real reason. The Bane worshipers would have told you what you wanted to know. They have to keep the city informed and besides they would enjoy proclaiming how their membership has grown. The reason you failed is because of your pride. Your pride is what leads you to make excuses and your pride is what is causing you to defend yourself now. Your pride prevented you from asking a worshiper of Bane for help. Shed your pride like a snake sheds his dull skin.”

Today is the day I learned the lesson of pride. I know understand another failing I have. The Triadic Vulgate is clear to me on this now. I will shed the dull skin of pride forever.

Abandoning darkness

Things are never as they seem. Today I received a special delivery. Pavel would have me believe that Sharisa is now a faithful follower, and I have no reason to doubt him. It is a miracle of the broken one to bring someone from the darkness. I am not a fool and did all I can to confirm Pavel’s claim and he is true to his word as always. I will help her adjust to her new following and forget the trespasses of the past. It is good practice for my future tests. I pray for Sharisa and especially for my friends of the company of light and Darkness. May they return as heroes and liberators. Pavel owes me an explanation.
