Pavel’s Sacrifice

13 Kythorn, 1373

The wicked never rest and neither will we. The Eclipse came over Kurth as expected and was the catalyst for the Baneites next plot. Leaf and I mounted up onto his horse and rode to the cemetery to investigate the disturbance. Pavel, Slyl, Mauros, & Kelestri were quick to ride too. The Black Guards were riding to a grave. Pavel and Mauros engage out of my sight somewhere in the cemetery. Kelestri doesn’t have her sword, a rare occurrence. I decide to call Tothlaeren I jump from Leaf’s horse onto Tothlaeren and ride to meet Kelestri and give her my greatsword. The battle begins and it is chaos. Fireballs explode around me as I attack 3 Black Guards. Tothlaeren command their horses to buck there riders and I put my new sword to good use dropping one of the Black Guards. I can hear everyone else doing battle and I wish I could see it in the darkness. I suddenly everything goes wrong for me. I take the full brunt of a well-aimed fireball and the Black Guard leader strikes me with an expertly placed sword blow.

Everything grows bright and I see the mountains of perpetuity. The fresh clean snow and breathe the crisp air. The path is laid before me with three branches and I cannot turn back. The afterlife is ahead of me, yet I have not yet begun to live my life. I am in a fog as I realize I have left my friends to fend for themselves in there time of need and I am unable to go to them. Just as I contemplate my first steps I see a strong angelic figure that asks me if I want to return to the field of battle. My mind is hazy, but I know how much I need to do. I ask to be returned to Kurth.

All fades to black and I see Pavel kneeling over me. I sense he has paid a dear price for my return. A price I cannot repay. I thank Pavel although I know no words that suffice. Pavel simply says there is much to do young Paladin. I bound to my feet and mount Tothlaeren, who never left my side. I hold nothing back as I bring the fury of three gods down on my enemies. I save the last Black Guard for Kelestri to “talk” with. I have been reborn twice in one year. Once to the Triad and now because of Pavel’s sacrifice.
